The olive oil obtained from the olive tree that has been standing for 1,500 years in Iznik District of Bursa, the capital of history, is distributing healing all over Turkey. Very special olive oil purchased as medicine is sold at 700 liras per kilo.
The 1,500-year-old olive tree in Göllüce neighbourhood located on the coastal band in Iznik district continues to dazzle with its splendour.
The interest in the olive tree, which has a large body where nearly 500 kilos of olives are collected in the season, is increasing day by day.
Osman Bayer, Headman of Göllüce Neighbourhood, said, ‘A thousand 500-year-old olive tree still does not withhold its fruit from people. Olive oil obtained from its olives is used as medicine. The oil of this tree, which is sold at 700 liras per kilo, is in great demand. The grandfathers of our grandfathers and those before them also named this tree rose tree. The reason for this is that they got a lot of yield from this tree and even filled 10-12 moulds, so they always smiled and named the tree rose tree.
Olive farmer Veysel Ceber said, ‘We call it an immortal tree. It was sick before, we always cleaned its rotten parts and brought it back to life. Olive oil obtained from the tree is in demand from all over the country. We have difficulty in keeping up,’ he said.
